The local administration has lifted the curfew here in the district headquarters, Gaur, effective from 4 am on Sunday morning. The curfew was clamped in Gaur effective from 2 pm on Saturday after locals resorted to violent protests over Friday's death of a protestor. Ram Ashish Thakur, 61, of Gaur-10 had died on Friday evening during the treatment at Gaur Hospital after he was hit by a police van during their demonstration against the government decision to extend administrative services to Chandranigahpur. The local administration lifted the curfew in line with the demand of the Rautahat Chamber of Commerce and Industry-led talks team.

On Saturday night, the District Administration Office (DAO) had called the agitating sides for talks. The talks, however, could not proceed as the agitating groups put forth demands of lifting curfew and demobilization of the security forces as pre-condition for talks. Although the curfew lifted, the marketplace is yet to be reopened. According to Madan Kumar Bhujel, Chief District Officer, the next talks has been scheduled for 9 am this morning. Nepal Red Cross Society Rautahat Chairman Sanjiv Kumar Mallik has mediated the talks between the Local administration and agitating groups. Tension ran high in Gaur on the fourth day of demonstrations on Saturday after locals carried out violent protests over the death of Thakur. The enraged locals took to the streets in the morning, putting forth seven-point demands including declaring deceased Thakur as martyr and compensation for the bereaved family. Demonstrators had even defied the curfew.
