Protesters set fire to a taxi in Kathmandu

The agitating 30-party alliance led by Unified CPN (Maoist)  set ablaze a taxi in Koteswor-Balkumari this morning. The alliance enforced a nationwide general strike today aiming at piling pressure for promulgating a new constitution in the spirit of consensus. The agitators scattered petrol and put aflame the taxi (Ba 1 Ja 1877) of Niraj Baniya, a local of Hetauda, while he was returning to Lalitpur after dropping his relative at the Tribhuvan International Airport. Two unidentified demonstrators stopped the taxi and put it on fire with petrol at 5:15 am this morning.

After the severe damage to his vehicle, taxi driver Baniya said he was worried about the livelihood of his family as it was the only source of income. Republica's Palpa based correspondent, Tek Narayan Bhattarai informed that the cadres of the agitating 30-party alliance led by Unified CPN (Maoist) have vandalized eight motorbikes from Mehaldhar and Bhurbaghat area of district headquarters Tansen. Likewise, agitators also interrupt the VDC secretaries meeting being held at the District Development Committee hall.
