Bhaktapur court sentences murderer to life in prison

 Bhaktapur District Court today convicted a man of murder and sentenced him to life in prison with confiscation of his entire property. Court Registrar Khadga Raj Adhikari said a single bench of Judge Lekhnath Dhakal convicted Kumar Pahari aka Lure, 38, of Changunarayan Municipality of murdering 18-year-old Bishwo Ram Thapa of the same locality on September 11, 2011, and slapped Pahari with life imprisonment. The victim’s body was found buried five days after the incident. Thapa was an eighth-grader at Prabhat Secondary School in Byasi. Pahari had fled to Malaysia following the incident and was arrested last year. The court had sentenced Gokarna Thapa and Deepak Thapa, the co-accused, also to life in prison on July 30, 2012, but Patan Appellate Court had later overturned the verdict and acquitted them. Pahari had beaten the teenage boy to death to rob him of Rs 11,000 before burying him. Initially, the victim’s family had lodged a ‘missing complaint’ with the police. But he was found murdered and buried in a 1.5 feet deep pit. Locals had found the body after a dog dug up the ground informed police. The court has also punished him with a fine of Rs 39,000 and an additional jail term of four years on the robbery charges.
