FNJ Panchthar president attacked

Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) Panchthar district chapter president Lavadev Dhungana was attacked by a gang led by District Sports Development Committee chairman Yogendra Sabden. Dhaungana, Panchthar correspondent of Kantipur national daily, had earlier received a death threat from Sabden over phone earlier. Dhungana said he was beaten by the gang after they came to know that he was planning to report on irregularities in the Sports Committee. Balkrishna Kafle, coordinator of Local Peace Committee, said the gang led by Sabden and Sports Committee secretary Matrika Dahal thrashed Dhungana while he was talking with Kafle at an eatery on Sunday evening. The journalist is undergoing treatment at Biratnagar-based Neuro Hospital. Meanwhile, FNJ Panchthar and Nepal Press Union Panchthar condemned the attack. They have urged police to book those involved in the attack. District Police Office Chief Deepak Pokhrel said police nabbed three persons including Sabden and Dahal for further investigation.
