The transport entrepreneurs in Chitwan have brought the vehicles operated from the district to a halt from Monday morning in protest against ‘police's atrocity on the staffers of the transportation office’. Some 500 vehicles have been operating from Chitwan on a daily basis. According to Kapil Pandey, coordinator of the Federation of Nepalese National Transport Entrepreneurs for Narayani Zone, the federation has brought the vehicular movement in the district to a standstill protesting against the arrest of the Federation's staffs without valid reasons.
Police recently had arrested the assistant driver Prakash Sunar of a microbus, Ba 2 Kha 5030, and Eknath Dhungana and Keshav Neupane of another microbus, Ba 2 Kha 9308, for causing inconvenience to the passengers because of the brokerage in fare right under the nose of the traffic police. They have filed the case under the Public Offence Act, shared Sahakul Bahadur Thapa, Chief at the District Police Office, Chitwan. The transport entrepreneurs also have demonstrated in various parts of Chitwan today in connection to this. The agitating entrepreneurs state that they will continue the protests until their staffs are released.
