Central Bureau of Investigation (CIB) of Nepal Police has nabbed two members of a racket involved in trafficking Nepali girls to dance bars in African and Gulf countries. The arrested are Surendra Bahadur Basnet, 32, of Pipara Simara of Bara and Sunil Magar, 20, aka Jire/Badal of Dharampur, Jhapa. CIB said Basnet was arrested from Gadimai Municipality and Magar from Narsingh Chowk in Thamel of Kathmandu. Earlier, CIB had arrested eight people on the charge of trafficking girls to African and Gulf countries. CIB said Basnet, who was earlier held for smuggling drugs, was responsible for sending girls to abroad after coordinating with Indian and Nepali agents. The investigation further reveals that Magar used to allure girls for jobs in dance bars and take them to traffickers. The gang used to lure girls by promising them of handsome salary in dance bars of Tanzania, Kenya, UAE, Bahrain, Oman and Malaysia among other countries. Police began a crackdown on the gang starting ‘operation eagle’ acting on information that trafficked girls are traumatized physically and mentally and are forced to be involved in indecent activities.
