Clash Leaves 10 Inmates Injured

Ten inmates of Bhimphedi based Regional Jail have been injured after they clashed with each other over the issue of paying telephone bill on November 30.

 

The clash flared after the inmates transferred from Kathmandu attacked the other inmates in the jail, the regional jail source said, adding that those detainees transferred from the Kathmandu are Tashi Lama, Kailash Singh Thakuri and Dani Lama and Sangam Shrestha.

 

The injured detainees have been identified as Ananda Syantan of Raksing VDC, Solak Lama and Bijay Adhikari of of Hatiya VDC, Raju Lama, Ganga Lal Theeng and Raj Kumar Moktan of Manhari VDC, Suresh Pariyar of Hetauda Municipality-1, Dinesh Lopchann of Dhading, Jamsed Ansari of Hedauda Municipality and Shailendra Adhikari of Ipapanchakanya VDC of Makwanpur, police said.

 

The injured inmates, who were attacked with firewood, glass and stones, have suffered injuries to different organs of their bodies, and they are undergoing treatment at Hetauda Hospital.

 

Injured Solak Lama said that the detainees transferred from the Capital attacked them over the issues of paying money for telephone.

 

Police had fired three teargas shells to pacify the situation, jailer Purusottam Humagain said, adding that the clash occurred as mischievous detainees have been transferred in the jail. A total of 278 detainees and prisoners have been staying in the regional jail which has capacity for 400, the jail source said.

 

CDO Dinesh Bhattarai and DSP Shyam Khadka had reached the scene for inspection and to take stock of situation in the jail.
