Former minister Aftab alam in Police's most wanted list

2015-07-02

Murder accused former minister from Nepali Congress Mohammad Aftab Alam has been placed on the most wanted list of Nepal Police. The minister is accused of burning 23 of his cadres, including 21 Indian nationals, to death in a brick kiln in Rautahat around 8 years ago. The cadres were reportedly making a bomb following Alam's order and were injured when the bomb accidentally went off. As he feared that the incident would become public and he would be implicated in the bomb-making plot, the former minister burnt the injured cadres alive in the brick kiln and termed it an accident. He is on the run after District Police Office, Rautahat, started an investigation into the case. The Supreme Court had issued a show-cause notice in the name of Rautahat police for not arresting Alam. He is thought to be hiding in India. Alam was elected to the second constituent assembly from constituency number 2 of Rautahat.
