Draft constitution torched in Kathmandu

2015-07-11

Bagmati, Kathmandu, Kathmandu, Ward 28

The 33-party front led by the CPN-Maoist on Saturday burnt the draft of the constitution in Ratna Park. A protest rally was organized before the front cadres burnt the draft statute. CPN-Maoist Valley in-charge Dinesh Sharma said the draft constitution was torched and torn up as it was being brought against the people's aspirations. Sharma was of the opinion that the 16-point agreement reached among the four major political parties had blocked the general wave of change in the country. Earlier, some Madhes-based parties had also burnt the copies of the draft statute, saying some provisions in it are regressive and do not ensure the rights of Madhesis and the marginalized. The draft constitution has already been taken to districts for public feedback.
