(Updated) -Police have arrested 75 cadres of the Netra Bikram Chand 'Biplav'-led CPN (Maoist) from Kathmandu and Lalitpur districts. Police arrested 74 banda enforcers from Kathmandu and another from Lalitpur district, for involvement in vandalizing public vehicles and enforcing the market shutdown. A spokesperson at Metropolitan Police Office, Senior Superintendent of Police Narayan Singh Khadka, told the National News Agency (RSS) that the banda enforcers were found carrying petrol in bottles and jerry cans. Police said they were released only after necessary investigation. Security in Kathmandu valley has been tightened by mobilizing a large number of security personnel at different places after cadres of the CPN (Maoist) started demonstrating from early morning, said SSP Khadka. The banda enforcers had vandalized five vehicles in Kathmandu and three in Lalitpur this morning, added police. Normal life in Kathmandu valley has been hit hard due to the banda (shutdown). Educational institutions, shops, factories, businesses, and private offices have been affected due to the general strike.
(Update)- According to the police, till now 202 protesters have been arrested for vandalism. Among the arrested 197 are male and 5 are female. They have destroyed 20 vehicles from different part of the valley like Balaju, Kamladi, Basundhara, Baudha, Naya bazaar, Lalitpur Pulhok, Prayog Pokhari.
