In a controversial move, Samyukta Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha has formally decided to give Rs 5 million to protesters who lost their lives during ongoing protests. A meeting of top Morcha leaders on Wednesday decided to provide the amount among other facilities to the families of the deceased and injured through the state government to be formed after the promulgation of the constitution. “Families of martyr will also get a government job. Their children will be entitled to lifelong education and the injured will be provided proper treatment,” Rajendra Mahato, Chairman of Sadbhawana Party told the Post. The decision comes two days after a protestor died in Saptari during protest. Chairman of Sanghiya Samajbadi Forum Nepal Upendra Yadav said the decision was taken as joint commitment of Madhes-based parties to support the martyr families and injured. When asked if the decision would persuade poor people to sacrifices their life, Yadav said, “The promised amount is no different from what the government is providing to martyr families. People may say anything but we urge everyone to take decision as it is.” Morcha has also decided to start formal talks with disgruntled Tharu, Janajati and Muslim to start a joint protest. A meeting of Morcha leaders on Thursday decided to form a central coordination committee to initiate talks with other agitating groups.
