2015-08-21

The Nepal Police on Thursday arrested a man on the charge of murdering five members of the same family in Khelgaun, Badikhel-6 of Lalitpur district 12 years ago. Chandra Bahadur Pahari, 63, of same village, who had been living in Jhaukhel, Changunarayan Municipality of Bhaktapur has been arrested for his alleged involvement in the murder. Making him public amid a press meet at Metropolitan Police Crime Division (MPCD), Teku, the police said he committed the murder over financial dispute and suspicion of his wife's illicit relationship with Bhanu Nagarkoti. On October 3, 2003, Pahari allegedly murdered his sister Dhankumari Nagarkoti, 30, his brother-in-law Bhanu Nagarkoti aka Hiralal, 36, nephew Rabindra Nagarkoti, 13, nieces Luri, 10, and Tukuli, 8. Five probe teams had been formed at different points in time to investigate the case. Police had remained clueless about the gruesome murder. Pahari had murdered the five by slitting their throats using a sharp weapon. "Next day when the family members were found murdered in their bedrooms, Pahari himself had cremated the bodies. He had also seemingly been supporting investigation to mislead the police," SSP Sarbendra Khanal said. He confessed that he had planned to murder his sister and brother-in-law but accidently killed others. Pahari was arrested from Bhaktapur and has been sent to Metropolitan Police Range Office, Lalitpur for further investigation.
