2015-08-21

Villagers thrashed a Dalit family after accusing a minor Suman Bayalkoti from the family of involvement in a theft case at Subhang VDC in Panchthar yesterday. The locals thrashed Suman’s father Dilli Bayalkoti, 50, mother Kamala, 45, and sister Lila, 18, after Suman Bayalkoti and his friend Nabin Uverkoti of the VDC stole some cash and other important documents from a house belonging to Dik Bahadur Suhang of the same VDC yesterday. Following the incident, the victims have filed an FIR against Local Village Peace Committee coordinator Chitra Bahadur Yonghang and other villagers at the police office. The victims accused them of being involved in the case. The victims said that Younghang, ward civil forum chairman Baburam Younghang, local Milan Suhang, Khadga Bahadur Uverkoti and Milan Bayalkoti among other villagers had thrashed them while they were discussing the case. “We were beaten while I was requesting the gathering of villagers to investigate into the case,” said Kamala. She said that they were ready to face action but only if her son was proven guilty. Meanwhile, a police team deployed from Jorpokhari Police Post reached the site and settled the case. Police have arrested the accused Suman, 16, and Nabin, 15, for further investigation into the case. Both the accused have been kept in District Police Office, Panchthar. According to inspector Rabiraj Thapaliya of DPO, the police have seized some important documents along with some cash from the arrested. Investigation into the case is under way, said Thapaliya.
