More than 18 demonstrators and 8 police injured after a clash occured during victory rally

In Jajarkot more than a dozen demonstrators and 8 police were injured in a clash that ensued when police interfered in a victory rally. injured. Local people along with leaders and supporters of various political parties in the region were celebrating their success of the 12 day-agitation, demanding that the region should be split from the Far-West and be declared an autonomous state. Although protester insisted they had obtained permission for a victory rally, including taking out a torch rally, permission for a torch rally had not been granted, according to police. When police kettled demonstrated who took out a torch rally, a clash ensued after stones were thrown from the crowd of demonstrators. To take the situation under control police fired two rounds of tear gas. However, as the situation did not calm down, the police suddenly resorted to lathi-charge. In the ensuing scuffle, more than 18 demonstrators and 8 police personnel were injured. According to local civil society leader Khim Bahadur Shahi, the demonstration was peaceful but the clash occurred after cadres of Baidhya-led CPN-Maoist had infiltrated the victory rally.
