Universities padlocked in protest of Vice-Chancellors' appointment

Nepal Progressive Teachers' Union affiliated with CPN-UML has padlocked four universities in protest of the appointment of Vice-Chancellor in five universities. The protest started after Government appointed Prof. Dr. Tirtha Khaniya in Tribhuwan University, Prof. Dr Kul Prasad Koirala in Nepal Sanskrit University, Prof. Bhusan Shrestha in Far-Western University and Prof. Dr. Ghan Shyamlal Das in Purbanchal University as Vice-Chancellor. Prof Dr. Ishwori Prasad Dhakal was appointed as Vice-Chancellor in Agriculture and Forestry Science University. Dhakal is believed to have close ties with UCPN-Maoist. Four newly appointed Vice-Chancellors were given appointment letter on Monday at 11:30 am by Secretary of Education Ministry, Bishwo Prakash Pandit. The protestors complained that Nepali Congress made the arbitrary decision while appointing the vice-Chancellors. They informed us that the universities will be padlocked until the decision is reconsidered.
