(update) Former General Secretary of Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities (NEFIN) Ang Kaji Sherpa has been arrested on Wednesday. Police nabbed Sherpa on the charge of posting status on social media that could jeopardize social harmony. Confirming the arrest, SSP Sarbenda Khanal said Metropolitan Police Crime Division arrested Sherpa from Bouddha in the capital. “Messages that could threaten social harmony have been circulated through his Facebook account. The arrest was made for the investigation to that regards,” SSP Khanal told Myrepublica, “Details can be made public only after thorough studies.”

Kathmandu District Court on Thursday remanded former General Secretary of the Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities (NEFIN) Ang Kaji Sherpa to four days in custody under the Electronic Transaction Act, 2008. SP Bishwo Raj Pokharel, spokesperson of Metropolitan Police Range Office, Kathmandu, said, "We have initiated the investigation on Ang Kaji Sherpa after the court remanded him in custody." According to police, over 800 statuses regarding Kailali carnage posted on social media by Sherpa were found to be 'jeopardizing social harmony, inciting regional and racial conflict and creating division among the security forces'
