Police, protester clash in Saptari, NC office set on fire

Tension ran high at Rupani along the East-West Highway in Saptari district as protesters clashed with security personnel on Sunday evening. Defying the curfew and declaration of the riot-hit zone, about 500 people, apparently, cadres and supporters of United Democratic Madhesi Front demonstrated at Rupani. In response, security personnel fired shots in the air and lobbed tear gas shells to disperse the protesters. Police have detained Sadbhawana Party’s central member Dinesh Yadav and district secretary, Hareram Yadav, and some students leaders from Rupani. Meanwhile, the UDMF cadres vandalised and set fire on an office of Nepali Congress at Rajbiraj-1. Police resorted to lobbing tear gas shells to disperse the attackers.
