Sudurpashchim, Achham, Kamalbazar

The Achham District Court slapped 44 years of imprisonment and a fine of Rs 310,000 to a man, who sold his wife in India. The 56-year-old Amar Bista of Dhanku-9, Achham sold his third wife in India on Wednesday. A bench of judge Hari Prasad Upadhdhyay Sharma Pangeni has slapped the sentence based on various laws. The Court also ordered that the convict pay Rs 155,000 to the convict as a compensation. The victim on January 28 had filed the case against her husband Amar, his second wife Tulchhi, and Min Bahadur Bista of Dhanku for helping Bista to marry and sell the victim. However, the Court gave a clean chit to Tulchhi and Min Bahadur. Netra Majhi, a Srestedar at the Achham District Court, said that this is the first human trafficking case in the district, in which the Court has pronounced such a big punishment. The Court has observed that the convict took her to India with a commitment to marry her. The victim had explained at the Court that while Bista was absent, an unidentified person came to the room and told her that he purchased her for Rs 300,000. Later, she ran away from the place to save her life. Meanwhile, the convict was sent to the jail immediately after the verdict. Advocate Khadag Khadka, who advocated for the victim at the Court, said that this judgment will support controlling human trafficking cases in the district.
