The District Court, Chainpur has fined Purna Prasad Pokhrel, 60, of Khandbari1 Rs 14,500 for marrying a minor.

Pokharel had got married to a 15-year-old  girl of Barhabise2 on May 7, 2012, police said.

He was arrested on May 12 and filed a case under child marriage on May 21.

The girl’s neighbor Tulasi BK was fined Rs 1,000 for persuading the girl to agree for the marriage.

The court said though the Chapter on Child Marriage of Country Code has a provision of six months of jail term and Rs 10,000 in fine, he was released after considering the situation.
