MAHOTTARI: Chairman of Mahottari chapter of Nepal Press Union and publisher and editor of Mahottari Weekly, Kamalesh Mandal, received death threats via his mobile phone on Monday. An unidentified person called him from cell number 9817892788 and threatened that he would finish him off for publishing news related to April 30 Janakpur bomb blast. Mahottari DSP Kushal Purush Dhakal said people involved in April 30 blast might have threatened Mandal. Investigation is under way, DSP Dhakal said. Mahottari chapters of Federation of Nepali Journalists, Press Chautari Nepal, Nepal Press Union, Madhesi Journalists’ Society and Madhes Media Society condemned the incident and demanded action against the guilty. --------------------------------------------

Kamalesh Mandal, 38, of Matihani3 has been threatened by an unidentified person for writing news related to the Janakpur bomb blast on June 18.

 

A person making calls from cell no 9817892788 issued death threats four times today, Mandal, who is district correspondent of AV News Channel and Rajdhani Daily, said. Mandal also the publisher and editor of Mahottari Saptahik is chairperson of the district chapter of Nepal Press Union.

 

Police said that the person issuing the death threat might be the ones enlisted by police investigation team for his involvement in the bomb blast that occurred at Ramananda Chowk of Janakpur on April 30.

 

District chapters of FNJ, Press Chautari Nepal and Nepal Press Union, in separate statements, flayed the incident.

 

Meanwhile, District Police Office said that the phone issuing threats to Mandal is registered in the name of Chandreshwor Mahaseth of Ratauli7. Kushal Purush Dhakal, DSP at DPO said that investigation of the incident is underway.
