The cadres of the United Democratic Madhesi Front have seized and destroyed 400 litres of petrol on Monday morning at Bhitthamod, the major checkpoint at the Nepal-India border in Mahottari district.
The cadres seized 415 litres gasoline which four smugglers had been bringing in jerrycans in the wee hours this morning at Bhitthamod and destroyed it, said Lal Babu Yadav, the leader of the Sadbhawana Party, one of the constituents of the UDMF.
Yadav said the four persons had smuggled the fuel from India using a clandestine route through the jungle.
They were trying to take the petrol to Jaleshwar, the district headquarters when they were intercepted by the Front cadres who were on a sit-in protest near the border check point.
According to him, the smugglers were caught in the forest some 200 meters from the border check point.
