Six women have been rescued from Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu on Wednesday evening after police found that they were being trafficked to Thailand. Police arrested two persons in connection with this and they have been remanded to five days custody on trafficking charge by Kathmandu District Court.

Superintendent of Police Sahakul Bahadur Thapa, spokesperson of Metropolitan Police Crime Division, said the arrested have been identified as Surya Man Shrestha of Nuwakot and Prakash KC of Kathmandu. "They were lured to fly to Thailand on a tourist visa," said SP Thapa. "The women come from various background and they had arrived in Kathmandu a week back." The rescued women in their statement to the police have said that they were promised a job in Kuwait and Shrestha and KC had made arrangements for their travel to their destination. However, the women had visas only up to Thailand.

In the past, the Shrestha and KC had been arrested on charges related to forgery of labour documents. This time too, the duo had arranged fake documents of various companies for the women to assure the immigration officers that they were on a holiday trip to Thailand. In the past, too police investigations show that Thailand has been used as a transit point by traffickers to ferry women destinations including Kuwait, Dubai and sometimes to African countries.
