Birgunj tense as police, protesters clash

Birgunj, the headquarters of Parsa district, remained tensed throughout the day on Saturday following clashes between cadres of United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) and police. Clashes were reported at Ghantaghar and Maisthan among other places of the city. The law enforcement agency arrested two protesters after the latter vandalized a motorcycle at Ghantaghar. Following which, agitators pelted stones at police. Birgung_2_clash.jpg Then, police arrested five more demonstrators and lobbed teargas shells. Protesters in return, hurled petrol bomb targeting the law enforcement agency. According to SP Raj Babu Shrestha, Constable Ajit Pandey got injured in stone-pelting. UDMF cadres also vandalized a motorcycle, Na 3 Pa 2340, at Panityanki.
