Deepen Limbhu, 18, of Shanischare8 filed a case on August 27 against ASI Ram Kumar Sherpa of the same VDC as per the law on torture compensation at the Jhapa District Court.
Limbu was arrested by three policemen on July 20 after the command of Sherpa deputed at Bus Park Police Station. He was taken to the nearby hotel and seriously beaten up by them without any reason, according to the compensation application that Limbu registered in the Court.
After the beatings, he was taken to the Area Police Office in Birtamod and was released later on July 22.
The pictures showing the wounds on his body inflicted due to the torture have also been submitted along with the application.
Following the registration of the case against the police with the help of Advocacy Forum Nepal, the Court ordered for his medical treatment which was conducted at the Mechi Regional Hospital on July 24.
According to the registered lawsuit, police has invoked the civil and political rights, rights against torture and fundamental rights included in the Interim Constitution. The victim has claimed Rs 100,000 according to the clause (6) of the Torture Compensation Act 1997and action against the police administration.
