A team of National Human Rights Commission has conducted monitoring of human rights situation in Siraha, Saptari, Dhanusha, Mahottari, Sarlahi and Rautahat districts. A statement issued by the rights watchdog on February 12 said that the monitoring found that human rights situation of these districts was concerning and sensitive. “It was found that members of the public were had to pay double fine while paying taxes as the government offices were shut for a long time due to the agitation and police investigation into significant cases had not moved ahead,” the constitutional body said, adding, “The psychological and financial condition of families of those who died and were injured in the agitation was pitiful.” The NHRC called on the government to provide free and effective treatment to those injured during the agitation and collect their details. The monitoring team included NHRC Chairperson Anup Raj Sharma, commissioner and spokesperson Mohna Ansari, acting secretary Bed Bhattarai and human rights officers.
