Mahottari youth in critical condition after SSB thrashing

A Nepali youth was critically injured after a severe thrashing at the hands of Indian Sashastra Seema Bal personnel at the border area in Mahottari today. Amit Sharma, 24, of Pataili-4, Mahottari, was returning home after buying saris from the Indian market of Madhawapur in Bihar for his sister’s marriage when Indian police detained and beat him up at the border near Matihani-7. Sharma has received multiple injuries all over his body from the police beating. He is undergoing treatment at a clinic in Madhawapur of India. The victim is a bachelors level student at Matihani-based Yalana Bidhyapith affiliated to Nepal Sanskrit University. His father Sanjayaraj Sharma is a sub-inspector at Sarlahi District Police Office. Meanwhile, locals of Matihani, Parsapataili, Jaleshwor, Nainhi, Bathanaha, Kattikataiya, Khairbanni, Raghunathpur and Jaleshwor municipality rued the frequent abuses they have been facing from the Indian security force. “It’s a common thing for us to get beaten by the Indian police, But what is more surprising is the nonchalance of the authorities here even when Indian police mistreat us,” the locals lamented.
