Locals of Salyan district have enforced bandh in the district over the death of an inmate accused of murdering a woman from Triveni VDC. The bandh was organized by the protest committee comprising of the victim's families and locals formed through meeting at Luham VDC. Market places, educational institutions, and transportation services have remained closed due to the bandh. The bandh was organized over the death of 52-year-old Gopilal Budhathoki, an inmate in the District Police Office, who police claim, committed suicide.
Gopilal was arrested by the police regarding an investigation into the death of Nirmala BK of Triveni-6 VDC. Nirmala was found dead on March 5. Although it was thought initially, that Nirmala committed suicide, her family members suspected that she had been murdered and demanded police investigation into her death. Police later arrested four persons including Gopilal over suspicion of their alleged involvement in Nirmala's murder.
The incident turned more complicated after Gopilal was found dead hanging in his prison cell. Although the police claimed that Gopilal committed suicide, his family members and relatives are not ready to believe the police. Accusing the police of conspiring Gopilal's death and attempting to cover up the incident, the deceased's family and locals have demanded rupees ten lakhs compensation to the victim's family. They have warned of intensifying their protest programs if their demands are not fulfilled.
