(updated) A 12-year-old Dalit girl from Dharan municipality who was raped by 25-year-old Sujhan Majhi of the same village on February 24 is still seeking justice after the police failed to arrest the accused, almost one month into the incident. According to the victim's family, villagers are pressing them to withdraw the case against the accused and reconcile with him. They have also accused the police of being indifferent towards their plea to arrest the accused, Majhi, who is known to be still roaming in the village, avoiding the police's eye. Majhi was also accused of raping another woman from the same village in the past, but the case was settled outside court at the insistence of the villagers. The victim's family also said that five women from the village came to their house to press them to reconcile. The next day local political leaders also came to force them to settle the case outside court. The incident of the rape had only come to the light after the victim shared her dreary experience with one of her close friends. The perpetrator allegedly threatened to kill her if she disclosed the incident to anyone. The victim has not been able to go very far from her house following the incident.
