2012-10-12

Tanahun/October 11 Shova Tamang and Ramkaji Ranabhat of Bhadgaun in ByasN.P.1 have urged the Chief District Officer to provide security to perform final rites of Kaushal Pariyar of Bisghare in ByasN.P.10.

Stating that some men manhandled them while they were performing final rites of Pariyar at Seti buldighat according to Christian tradition, Ranabhat and Tamang submitted an appeal to the CDO on October 11. They said that the men obstructed and manhandled them while they were preparing to bury Pariyar. Body of Pariyar is left at the Seti river bank after the obstruction.

Ramji Laudari said that the body was left at the river bank after the district administration office, district police office and Byas municipality took no action though they were informed about the obstruction.

A Christian by religion, Pariyar, 24, of Bisghare ByasN.P.10 had died on October 10. Tamang and Ranabhat have stated in the appeal that Christians had been performing final rites at Seti Buldighat since 22 years. The appeal has also been copied to NC, UML and UCPN-M.

CDO Basudev Dahal said that police had been deployed as per their request.

Locals of Basghare and ByasN.P.1 said that Christians only cover the body of the deceased with stones due to which there were chances of infection by the decaying of the body.
