Cadres of All Nepal National Independent Students Union-Revolutionary aligned to Netra Bikram Chand-led CPN-Maoist today smeared black soot on the face of Kathmandu District Education Officer Shankar Prasad Gautam. ANNISU-R cadres smeared black soot on Gautam’s face accusing him of financial irregularities and not taking action against private schools that have been fleecing parents. They also accused him of arbitrarily transferring teachers. The students also vandalized office furniture. Purna Bahadur Singh, the chairperson, ANNISUR-R, said the move was part of their campaign for reforms in the education sector. Gautam, however, claimed that he was not involved in any irregularity and was carrying out his duties honestly.
