COCAP BIWEEKLY: INCIDENTS SURROUNDING COVID-19 January 16 - 31, 2021

From January 16 - 31, 2021 COCAP’s Nepal Peace Monitoring Project (PMP) recorded three incidents related to COVID-19. The incidents mainly involved protests demanding risk allowance by the doctors and demonstration demanding the opening of the Nepal-India border. Until January 31, 2021, the total number of positive cases reached 270,959 with 2029 deaths.

From January 16 - 31, 2021, 45 cases of gender-based violence (GBV) was recorded in which 18 victims of sexual assault were below the age of 26. Similarly, eight cases of domestic violence were recorded. This bi-weekly report is aimed to inform our readers of the added crisis brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic which has affected everyone’s livelihood and made some group of people even more vulnerable. It also aims to make the readers aware of the issues surrounding the violence against women and girls in Nepali societies.
