COCAP BIWEEKLY: INCIDENTS SURROUNDING COVID-19 December 16 - 31, 2020

From December 16 - 31, 2020 COCAP’s Nepal Peace Monitoring Project (PMP) recorded four incidents related to COVID-19. The incidents mainly involved protests demanding the opening of the Nepal-India border, fine against hospitals for charging more than the stated amount for PCR tests, teachers padlocking schools regarding their salary issue and protest by health workers demanding efficient facilities in the treatment of COVID-19. Until December 31, 2020, the total number of positive cases reached 260593 with 1856 deaths.

From December 16 - 31, 2020, 37 cases of gender-based violence (GBV) was recorded in which 18 victims of sexual assault were below the age of 26. Similarly, four cases of domestic violence were recorded. This bi-weekly report is aimed to inform our readers on the added crisis brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic which has affected everyone’s livelihood and made some group of people even more vulnerable. It also aims to make the readers aware about the issues surrounding the violence against women and girls in the Nepali societies.
