A married woman was forced out of the house by her in-laws just two months after marriage for not bringing a gold ring as dowry. Lovely Jaiswal, 22, of Bihar, India had tied a knot with Nabin Sah, 25, of Chandrapur Municipality in Rautahat on February 6, 2016. Lovely said her parents had offered more than what was demanded by her in-laws as dowry. “I also brought Rs 16 lakhs from my parental home after my husband said he wanted to buy a plot in Kathmandu,” she told media persons in Chandrapur today. She said she had a bachelor’s degree and the Bihar government had felicitated her for scoring high marks. “But, I was always subjected to humiliation and torture by my husband and in-laws,” she complained. She said she was asked to do all the household works. “When I protested, they forced me out of the house,” she said. Lovely complained that her father had also come from India for reconciliation, but her husband and her mother-in-law refused to listen to him. She said her husband had filed a divorce case at the Rautahat District Court, claiming she was deaf and mentally ill since childhood. It was reported that there was a row after the villagers advised Nabin to accept Lovely as his wife. Chairman of Woman Security Pressure Group, Devaki Nepal, said it was unjust to force a married woman out of the house over dowry. “The authorities have to take strong action against the accused,” she said. Meanwhile, Nabin claimed that his family had demanded nothing from Lovely’s parents. “Lovely is a mental patient since childhood and she does not care about household works,” he said, adding,” There is no alternative to divorce.” Lovely’s father Monaj said that his daughter was sound physically and mentally.
