2017-02-03

Madhes, Mahottari, Bardibas, Ward 1

Ram Prakash Kapar's family has faced a huge setback when her daughter was not accepted by her husband as she was not able to pay the dowry amount. They have married a year ago and her husband refused to her home as she wasn't able to give a buffalo. Ram Prakash said that he gave his daughter's father-in-law cash of NRs 1,60,000 and a bike worth 1,90,000. There was a deal between Ramprakash and Dukhi Kapar, his daughter's father in law that girl's family would pay NRs 3,50,000 as dowry, alongside a Honda Shine Motorcycle. 'Ram Prakash said that he would even give a buffalo after a year. But the groom's family got violent and refused to take their daughter-in-law home', said Ganeshi Mahato, a local. When they started fighting during the wedding, locals called police to calm the situation down. 'I worked so hard for my daughter's marriage. I even sold my land. But, everything is gone now'. However, the groom's family have said that the girl's family insulted them while they were eating and also added that asking for things in a marriage is like a tradition for them. Amrita said that she didn't want to get married at all. After she finished her 9th standard, her study was halted. She also said that they were uncivilized and whatever happened, happened for good. Amrita also added that she will study further and enhance her skills and only then she will get married.
