Dalit Beaten for Using Public Mill

Lalitpur/August 27 Nanda Lal Biswakarma of Ratnawali VDC-6 in Sindhuli has been beaten on charge of using public water mill and worshipping in a temple. According to Kamal Biswakarma, a staff at the Dalit NGO Federation, the incident came to light after the victim arrived at the capital seeking protection. Nanda Lal said that he was being barred from using the mill and worshipping by a community of 15-16 Chhetri households of Okharbot after he started living in the area six months ago. "I was beaten on August 17 when I opposed against their decision in the meeting called by the non-dalit community," he said. He accused local Gopal Karki, his brothers Bidur, Min Bahadur and Santosh of beating him. "Gopal also tried to file a complaint against me at the Area Police Office Solpa," he said. The victim said that he left the village seeking protection and justice after Gopal and other locals tried to beat him again.
