2018-11-13

Province 1, Taplejung, Phungling, Ward 3

A man attacked three persons with a Khukuri—a traditional Nepali sword—in Phungling Municipality-3, Taplejung, on Tuesday morning.

Police Inspector Laxman Thapa Magar said Bibas Magar attacked his sister Renuka Magar Bhujel and her two daughters Kristina, 8, and Orina, 6, with a Khukuri. They have sustained serious injuries to their head.

According to police, Renuka and her daughters were about to return home after celebrating Bhai Tika when the incident took place. Renuka, a resident of Dhankuta district, had gone to Taplejung with her daughters for the festival.

The injured, who were initially taken to the district hospital, were flown to Kathmandu-based Teaching Hospital for treatment.

Police said Bibash, who fled the scene after the incident, was found injured near his house.

“Bibash sustained injuries on his stomach,” said Dr Chiranjibi Khadka of the District Hospital, adding that they do not know how he got the injuries. He is receiving treatment at the District Hospital.

Police Inspector Thapa Magar said Bibash might be suffering from depression.

“Last year, he was reportedly diagnosed with depression in Siliguri, India. We are investigating into the case,” he said.
