Police have arrested 35-year-old, Laxmi Pandey of Kalikot Khadachakra Municipality-3, on the charge of killing his 27-year-old wife Nanni Koirala on June 21.
According to police, Pandey who has been operating a restaurant since 2 years in Chhyanath Rara municipality-2 Newroad, killed his wife by beating her on June 18.
The victim's maternal side filed a complaint at District Police Office, Mugu saying the accused killed his wife by consuming alcohol. The accused was arrested on June 21, four days after the incident.
The accused claimed that the deceased had committed suicide by consuming poison. Jaya Kala Shahi, the mother of the deceased, said the police registered a complaint only after getting pressure from human rights, women's rights activists and media persons from the district.
Instead of registering a complaint, police arrested a woman activist said Surya Devi Malla, a women's rights activist.
The accused has been arrested and detained for investigation, according to the District Police Office, Mugu.
Deceased's brother YenBahadur Shahi said Post-mortem of the dead body is being prepared to be done in the district hospital.
