Prakash Kumar Panta filed a complaint against Sub-Inspector Ashok Bahadur Pal, Police Constables Gyan Singh Dhami and Tukram Rana, Policemen Dan Singh Bhandari and Bhupendra Mahara of Patan Area Police Office, on May 15, in accusation of murdering his father, 74-year-old Kamalakant Pant.
The policemen allegedly beat the elderly man to death in evening of May 14. Police had gone to Pant's house to arrest his 40-year-old son, Lavdev Pant on charge of beating a woman. Lavdev Pant allegedly beat Shanti Pant on May 14 while under the influence of alcohol. According to Netra Mani Giri, Chief of District Police Office, the policemen pushed the elderly and hit him with a stick once because he was obstructing the police. Giri adds that the beating did not cause any serious injuries.
