Bagmati, Kathmandu, Kathmandu

A Bangladeshi national has been arrested on the charge of murdering another Bangladeshi national in Nepal.

Dula Miya was arrested in Kakadbhitta, the eastern border of Nepal, on Wednesday.

Earlier on January 21, Ahmad Mohiuddin Ahmad was found dead inside a hotel room in Kathmandu, where he was staying with Miya.

A travel agent by profession, Ahmed had come to Nepal with Miya on January 20 and was staying at Hotel Grand Villa, Solteemod. On immigration records, it is seen that Ahmed had arrived in Nepal seven times and enjoyed going to casinos. Police said Ahmed might have come to Nepal again for the same.

According to the hotel’s CCTV footage, the duo had lunch and were last seen together talking on a veranda at 3:40 pm on January 21. No one saw either of them coming out of the room, till the next day. The hotel staff went to investigate the next day and found the body in a pool of blood, in the bed. On further investigation, they found evidence that Miya washed off the blood in the bathroom before leaving.

“They did not eat in the hotel nor went outside during the daytime. So, the staff did not suspect anything and only went the next day to check on them,” a hotel staff said.

Police also saw an unidentified man entering the room on January 21 and then Miya dropping him outside.

In the CCTV footage, Miya was last seen coming out of the room in a suit, on the day of the murder. He left from the backside of the room that had a ladder attached, helping him in his escape. He took everything, without any proof for identification.

Miya was seen crossing the border, at Raxaul, the very next day. The room was booked under Ahmed’s name, and because of that, the police had trouble identifying the second person sooner. The information collected was of no immediate help as the person had already fled across the border.

DSP Rugam Kunwar of the Metropolitan Police Circle, Kalimati, said the investigation was delayed because the incident was only reported a day after, at around 4 pm. In the preliminary investigation, police said the victim was first attacked with a whiskey bottle on the head and then on the neck.

Meanwhile, the suspect has been brought to Kathmandu on Tuesday. Police are in preparation to make the arrestee public.

The Embassy of Bangladesh in Nepal also has shown interest in the investigation. It has urged the Nepal Police to investigate it properly.
