Kathmandu, June 18

The student wing of the ruling Nepal Communist Party has protested the appointment of Prof Dr Divya Singh Shah as the dean of the Tribhuvan University Institute of Medicine.

Interestingly, Dr Shah is the personal physician of the NCP chair, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, and many believe she got the position due to her proximity with the party and its key leaders. However, the party’s student union says Dr Shah is neither the most senior nor the most competent candidate among professors of the institute.

Demanding the university rectify the decision, the Maharajgunj Campus Committee of the All Nepal National Independent Students’ Union has padlocked the dean’s office today, according to the committee’s chairman Dr Binaya Pangyani.

A selection committee had shortlisted three persons including Dr Shah, and the TU Executive Council had picked her for the position yesterday evening.
