Kailali policeman murder: Investigators conclude it was smugglers’ attack

2020-10-18

Investigators say Nepal Police Assistant Sub-Inspector Govinda BK, who was commanding the police post in Jugeda of Kailali, was murdered after a planned attack from smugglers.

SSP Mukesh Singh of the Sudurpaschim Provincial Police Office says investigators mobilised from the office have narrowed down the investigation and would conclude the investigation by Tuesday. Currently, 13 persons have been arrested for investigation.

ASI BK and constable Ram Bahadur Saud who were patrolling the Jugeda area in Kailali on a motorbike were attacked on Saturday evening. Whereas BK’s body was found in the Mohana river the next morning, Saud’s whereabouts are not known yet. The search is still underway.

Investigators say the alleged smugglers used a domestic weapon to cut off the police officer’s head.

A team led by Central Bureau of Investigation (CIB)’s DSP Pancha Kumar Bakhu is looking into the case.

Of late, ASI Bista had focused his efforts in controlling cross-border smuggling of various goods in the area.

An on-duty police official Assistant Sub-inspector Govinda BK posted at the Jigada Police Post was killed in Kailali of Sudurpaschim on Sunday morning, October 18.His body was found in the local Mohana river.

A junior policeman accompanying the official for patrolling a neighboring area is incommunicado since the incident. Hence, investigators suspect Head Constable Ram Bahadur Saud might be responsible for the crime.
