Rape suspected on a woman found in naked state in Hanumante River

A woman in a naked state only wearing watch on her body was found scarthing the sand at the Hanumante Khola in Bhaktapur Thimi on November 21. There were scratches on her leg and she was bleeding profusely. In a semi-conscious state, the locals put on trousers and jacket on her.

Shortly afterwards, a team of police took her straight to Bhaktapur Hospital. She was given saline water and a general check-up was done. The nurse suspects that the woman was raped as she was shocked to see any man her hand was on her waist even when she was lying on the bed. Though there was a suspicion of gang-rape, the police could not file a complaint as the woman's body could not be examined due to legal issues which requires the presence of her relatives. According to the doctor, if the uterus is not checked within 72 hours, it cannot be confirmed whether it is rape or not.

During the conversation with the nurse, the woman said that she had a 5-year-old daughter, her name and address but the whereabouts of her husband is unknown. Nobody from her family came to understand her situation and she was discharged from Bhaktapur Hospital on November 22. The place where she was found has not been sealed, the clothes found around her are still there. Police are not been able to conduct further investigation into the incident.
