Police arrested 48-year-old Jahida Khatun on November 27 on the charge of murdering her daughter-in-law 30-year-old Ishrat Khatun of Lahan Municipality-18. 55-year-old uncle-in-law of the deceased, Wakil Mia was also arrested on the charge of involvement in the incident on November 26. As per the complaint by the deceased's father, the victim was beaten to death by her in-laws on November 25 and the accused relatives used to beat her questioning her character while her husband was out for foreign employment.

According to the victim's family , the other accused involved in the murder were the other relatives of Lahan Municipality-18, the 50-year-old Ali Akbar Mia , 48-year-old Majid Mia, 50-year-old Sukmar Mia, 30-year-old Ansarul Mia, 35-year-old Anjarul Mia, 35, and 25-year-old Anbarul Mia. They  have absconded after the incident.
