Writ against TRC Filed At SC

Kathmandu/June 3 A group of 234 conflict victims have filed a joint writ at Supreme Court on June 3 against the formation of Truth and Reconciliation Commission. One of the petitioners, Sabitri Shrestha said that they had demanded annulling the Act's Section 22 (1), Section 25 (3) and (4), Section 26 (2), (5) and Section 29 (1) and mandamus for amendment because the those sub-sections contain provision of amnesty to the perpetrators. President Ram Baran Yadav had endorsed the Act on May 11 following long negotiations among the political parties. Shrestha demanded that the Act should be made on par with international standard incorporating the SC decision of January 3. She further said that the victims felt unanimously that the perpetrators of grave human rights violence should not be pardoned. The writ has named Ministries of Law, Constituent Assembly and Parliamentary Affairs and Office of the Prime Ministers as defendants.
