Clash with Policemen Leaves One Dead

Dolpa,sthaniya praharibichko jhadapma ek srvasadharanko mrityu. Dolpa/June 5 A local has died following a clash between locals of Dho Tarap in Dho VDC of upper Dolpa region and policemen on June 3. Chhiring Phurba Gurung, 40, of Dho VDC-6, who was found severely injured in the morning of June 4 succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment. 14 others, including 12 security persons sustained injuries in the incident. Chhekpa Lama of ward no. 1 of same VDC was airlifted to Kathmandu for treatment. Buffer zone forest management committee had decided that Yarsagumba collection in the VDC would be opened from May 26, entry fee should be charged from the collectors and local clubs and Mother's group would not be allowed to collect the fee. The clash had erupted after security persons tried to stop the locals who attacked the officials of the committee. The locals were demanding that they be allowed to take entry fee. The committee had fixed 3 thousand rupees as entry fee for those entering in its area while the locals demanded an additional charge of 2 thousand rupees. APF and Nepal Police have been deployed in the areas considered sensitive for Yarsagumba collection. APF DSP Roshan Shrestha said that APF men fired 71 rounds in air while Nepali policemen fired 7 rounds in air as the situation turned tense. Chief District Officer Krishna Prasad Khanal denied giving orders to open fire in air. Meanwhile, locals accused security persons of thrashing more than 20 locals.
