Clash with Locals Leaves over 50 Policemen, Locals Injured

Siraha,Prahari ra sthaniya vaasi bich jhadap. Siraha/June 7 A clash between the police and the locals at the Gurmi River Bridge in Mirchaiya Municipality-7 on June 6 has left over 50 injured. The clash occurred when the police tried to open the bandh called by the locals to exert pressure on police to locate a girl of Mirchiaya abducted by a young man. Among the injured are 24 Nepal Police men including Gyanendra Prasad Phunyal, Inspectors Padam Thapaliya, Bed Prasad Gautam, Santosh Niraula. Eight APR men including Inspector Pashupati Khanal were also injured so were 16 locals inlcuidng Anju Sah, Uday Singh, Satmohan Mandal and Upendra Singh. Injured Police Constable Ajay Chemjong was sent to Biratnagar for treatment after local Phulkumari Mahato Hospital could not treat him while others were at the same hospital and Rekha Nursing Home, Mirchaiya. Among the injured civilians, Anju Singh, Uday Singh and Satmohan Mandal have been sent to Neuro Hospital, Biratnagar for treatment, another injured Bijay Singh said. DSP Phunyal said that when they tried to open the road, the locals began pelting stones on them leading the incident. Nepal Police fired 30 shells of teargas and five rounds of blank fire and APF 13 shells of teargas to take the situation under control. A dialogue between the locals including Ram Dayal Yadav, Pabitra Yadav, Ram Babu Yadav, Human rights activists Jibachha Sah and Lilanath Shrestha and the government team of CDO Mohammad Abdul Khan, SP Purna Chandra Joshi and APF SP Bijay Pandit agreed to stopping bandh, restraining from vandalism, government covering the cost of treatment and actively searching for the girl.
