Dhading, avaidh shikarma pakrau pareka Basnet chutauna Congress Netako dabav. DHADING: Nepal Students’ Union central member and President of Free Students’ Union at Shankar Dev Campus Shuvaram Basnet, who was arrested with a killed deer yesterday from Thankre, Dhading, was remanded to 10-day custody today. Dhading District Forest Office Acting Chief Krishna Prasad Adhikary said six persons, including Basnet, were remanded to custody for further investigation. Assistant Forest Officer Binod Kumar Regmi has been assigned the task of investigating into the incident. Police had arrested the six persons with the dead deer from Aathkila of Thankre VDC while they were on their way to Kathmandu from Butwal yesterday. Police have seized the deer, a rifle and 19 bullets. Others arrested have been identified as Harish Bhandari, Roshan Khadka, Raman Rai, Chandra Gadaili and Madan Thapa. Adhikary said Basnet’s group had allegedly killed a deer in the community forest in Thankre. Preliminary investigation showed that Basnet’s group had entered the forest upon seeing the deer near the highway. Locals had reported the incident to the Area Forest Office and the police. Dhading DSP Prakash Malla said though the weapon carried by Basnet was licensed it was offensive to roam around with the weapon. “Basnet has admitted that he alone had shot the deer,” DSP Malla said. Chairman of NSU, which is the student wing of the Nepali Congress, and CA member Ranjit Karna said what Basnet had done was wrong should be punished as per the prevailing laws. This is not the first time that Basnet has had a brush with law. Around three months ago on March 3, five persons, including Basnet, were held with weapons whose licences had not been renewed. They were on a taxi when it was stopped for a routine police check in Sitapaila, Kathmandu. A 12-bore shotgun, a .22 long rifle, a Magnum pistol and 70 rounds of ammunition were recovered from them. While the other two firearms had legal permits, the Magnum pistol’s licence had expired, prompting the police to take the five into custody. काठमाडौं, अ
