UCPN-M Cadres Capture Electricity Poles

A group of about 100 UCPN-M cadres led by Man Bahadur Thapa, the UCPN-M Pyuthan member and VDC secretary Gobardhan Thapa, 50, arriving from Rajbara VDC have looted 140 poles brought for electrification of remote Aglung VDC of Gulmi.

 

Over 20 villagers including Radhika Malla, 70, Manmaya Bishta, 45, Mina Chand, 40, and Bijay Chand, 52, of Aglung6 hurt in their attempt to stop the UCPN-M cadres from taking away the poles.

 

A local Keshav Chand informed INSEC DR that the YCL cadres armed with khukuri, spears and batons had surrounded the homes of village elders early in the morning before seizing the poles. He added that the cadres had even assaulted the policemen arriving from Pujanibase station.

 

Gulmi CDO Kabindra Nepal informed that some policepersons were injured when they tried to stop the looting adding police force from Purkotdaha had also been mobilized for support.

 

The poles- 40 steel and 100 wooden ones, were sent in the direction of former Minister for Energy Gokarna Bishta for electrification of the remote VDC. The poles were looted by the UCPN-M saying they also had right over the poles as the Electrification Users' Committee was working on the project, another local Bijay Chand said.

 

DSP Baidawar informed that the police force had been mobilized to stop the transport of the poles adding the Gulmi police was working closely with Pyuthan counterparts to prevent further tension.
