Surya Kumar Shrestha, the chairman of ward 3 of the Ishwarpur municipality-3 of the Sarlahi district in southeastern Nepal, has been murdered, reportedly by an excavator operator on Friday evening.
SP Santosh Singh Rathor of the District Police Office says the law enforcers arrested the operator Harsha Bahadur Tamang along with another person in connection with the incident.
Last night, ward chair Shrestha had gone to Bhaktipur of his ward to observe the beautification work carried out at a local pond. He was accompanied by the contractor Prem Raj Dahak, who was later engaged in a minor dispute with the ward chair.
During the dispute, ward chair Shrestha was hit by the excavator operator by using the bucket of his machine, according to police.
Further investigation is underway.
