Students take out torch rally in Gorkha against dissolution of parliament and caste discrimination

2021-06-30

Four student organizations staged a torch rally at the Gorkha district headquarters on June 30 against the parliament dissolution and incident of discrimination against Dalits on the basis of caste. There was a scuffle between police and protestors after the police intervened in the protest.

The students, who had come to Haramtarichowk chanting slogans, evaded the police and burnt the effigy of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. The Nepal Students' Union, Akhil (Revolutionary), Samajwadi Vidyarthi Union, and Nepal-Khanal-affiliated ANNFSU jointly staged the protest.

They also criticized President Bidyhadevi Bhandari for repeatedly supporting the Prime Minister in dissolving the parliament.  Protestors accused PM of denying justice and demanded that action against the perpetrators of caste discrimination.
